Artissimo Art House Promotes Kid-preneurship and Generosity

Kids love body paint, too!

Have you ever walked into an art studio where stories from each canvas are from a child’s paint brush? There’s something about kids enhancing their talents and skills at a very young age. It inspires and amazes you that these kids are developing, but can give so much through their talents. How much more when a nine-year old and a seven-year old kid organizes a bazaar in an art studio? Believe it or not, Venice Lim and Vania Lim, art students in Artissimo Art House, organized a Chipmunk Sale last July 8, 2018.

Artissimo Art House, Cebu’s first and only walk-in contemporary art studio and art gallery, is happy to collaborate with their art students in organizing the chipmunk sale.

The Chipmunk sale is a children-themed indoor activity that features a bazaar, wherein kids from ages 4-12 manage their own booths and sell their preloved items—clothes, books, bags, shoes and toys.

With sisters Venice and Vania coming up with a kid’s bazaar idea, other art students that were interested joined the fun and became business kids themselves. The idea bloomed out of fun and camaraderie among the art students who attended the 2018 Summer Art Workshop in Artissimo Art House. The idea turned into one major fun event for them this month.

“The Chipmunk Sale is one way of encouraging young kids like myself to learn about sharing and at the same time learn how to be young business persons.” –Venice Lim

Artissimo Art House for its part also organized a kid’s art exhibition called, “Create and Share”, taking place on the same day. Different kids’ artworks like drawings and paintings were up for display at the Artissimo gallery walls.

Later in the afternoon, the art auction took place for those who wished to buy the kid’s amazing artworks on display. These art students do not only promote entrepreneurship at a very young age, but also generosity. Part of the proceeds of the art auction will go towards Everlasting Hope Cebu (EHC), a temporary shelter for children with cancer, located in Happy Valley in Cebu City.

“Everyone had a great time shopping with our kiddo bazaaristas and went home happy with their items. The art auction has greatly helped our beneficiary in its project for the center which we take by heart. We will be soon be participating a repainting activity for their center for which we are able to extend funding support.” -Artissimo Art House

Artworks from artist’s alley

The guests enjoyed the artist’s alley, too! These booths were managed by teens and adults artists selling their various artworks. There were several fun activities for everyone to enjoy such as live drawings live paintings and art merchandises.

There wasn’t a time wasted; everyone was roaming and visiting one booth to another. From the chipmunk sale, to the artworks displayed and to the artist’s alley—any artsy soul couldn’t get enough.

Arcy Gayatin: A Legacy of Luxury in Fabrication

By:  Allain Dumon Fonte

The brand Arcy Gayatin gave the Queen City of the South a distinct reputation in the fashion industry.  The fashion line of Arcy Gayatin sets the bar higher each year for clothing luxury and fabrication techniques.

Araceli “Arcy” Ancajas Gayatin is the daughter Galileo Ancajas and Remedios Zanoria Ancajas who founded Cebu’s home brand, Gal’s Bakery.  Arcy went to the University of San Carlos and studied Political Science.  And just like Dr. Muccia Prada, who completed her Ph.D. in Political Science and established the luxury line of Prada, Arcy also got in touch with her artistic side and started her own fashion line.  However, it was not Prada that influenced Arcy.  Arcy was introduced to fashion and tailoring at a very young age by her mother, Madame Remedios Anacajas whom they dearly call Mama Eme.  Mama Eme was running a tailoring business back then.  It was called Arabel; named after Arcy and her sister Belma.  Ara from Araceli and Bel from Belma.  In those years, Arcy was fascinated by fabrics and was intrigued by how to manipulate the fabrics to come up with fashion-forward designs without compromising comfort and taste.

After 37 years of creating haute couture pieces for the most fashionable personalities in the Philippines, Arcy Gayatin is now laying down her sketchpads and pens to rest.  As she enjoys her retirement, may be on a cruise to the Bahamas or a holiday to the Swiss Alps, Arcy Gayatin has left the fashion industry a legacy of elegant and edgy clothing ensembles that understand and define the shape of women; without compromising comfort and good taste.

To salute the lady who brought Cebu fashion to the world, a retrospective exhibition of Arcy’s incomparable masterpieces can be seen today at Ayala Center Cebu’s The Gallery; curated by fashion editor and writer, Clint Holton Potestas, and interior and fashion designer, Jul Oliva.

BALANCE.  Arcy Gayatin is known for her perfect symmetrical lines when fabricating.  She knows how to balance edginess and class; understanding well the strength and the finesse of a woman.

RHYTHM.  Arcy’s expertise in draping and fabric manipulation can be seen in how she achieves rhythm between architectural lines and soft fabrics like silk and cashmere.

TEXTURE.  With her thorough knowledge on fabrics, Arcy Gayatin has achieved the perfection of fabrication by working on different types of fabrics and creating a single piece of art out of them.

HARMONY.  The simplicity of the silhouette plus the intricacy of the details create a wonderful harmony, making Arcy Gayatin’s design a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

The photos below show an up-close look at the intricacy and the exquisite craftsmanship of Arcy Gayatin’s fabrication techniques:
