Growing up, you’ve probably had someone tell you to be in your best form on New Year’s Eve; be it in the way you dress, what you eat, or what you’re doing, with the belief that these things will tell a lot about how your year will play out. In Cebuano, there’s an exact word for it, called palihi—while there’s no literal English translation, it’s best described as something akin to an act that invites good luck.

While some people might not believe in these things, many would agree that dressing good can make you feel good, and that’s one thing that can help you start your new year on a positive note.

LBD GUARANTEE. An LBD—that stands for “little black dress” if you’re not so familiar with the term—can do you no wrong no matter what the occasion is. We repeat: No. Matter. What. It’s a must-have in your closet, and it goes so well with anything that you’re guaranteed to have a perfect outfit.

For New Year’s Eve, pair your LBD with high-heeled shoes and some statement pieces like a pair of gold drop earrings and a bedazzled clutch. Top off the look with bold, bright red lipstick and you’ll be looking classy and sophisticated in no time.

COSMIC COLOUR. Just recently, Pantone announced their Colour of the Year for 2018, and we’re loving the choice so much that we made a post on how to wear ultra violet.

Pantone is best known to have high authority when it comes to color, which is why many people in the artistic field look forward to their year-end announcements. On its website, Pantone writes, “Inventive and imaginative, Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come. It suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now. The vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own.”

GLOW ON. With it being New Year’s Eve, you’ve got to find a way to shine bright among everyone else. If you want to be the near-literal life of the party, then this fit is perfect for you. Wearing sequined dresses and metallics together can be difficult to pull off, but opting to go for a monochromatic look is one way to look fashionable.

Glamorous guests from Manila and Cebu converged at the NUSTAR Ballroom, an exquisite venue within the NUSTAR Resort and Casino in Cebu. The evening unfolded with a seated 5-course dinner. The opulent feast started with Beetroot Salmon Gravlax, adorned with caper berries, caviar, set with delicate edible flowers; and a main course of Compressed Pork Belly with Crackling Skin and Baby Scallops. Another highlight was the auction of coveted items like Dior and YSL handbags, a limited-edition Bulgari watch, and an exclusive 2-night stay in Nustar’s opulent 3-bedroom villa—complete with a private pool and a dedicated butler. The charity evening benefited the Cameleon Association, an NGO based in Iloilo City created in 1997 that developed a global approach to act on the causes and effects of sexual violence against children.

The Qipao As Interpreted by Innovative Filipino Designers: PHILIP RODRIGUEZ

The Qipao, an iconic symbol of Chinese fashion, takes center stage as we celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Wood Dragon. This singular closely-fitted garment crafted from the most opulent silks originated in 1920’s Shanghai. ZEE fashion editor Oj Hofer, has sought the creative insights of some of the Philippines’ most innovative designers for their interpretation of the elegant Qipao, also known as Cheongsam.
