This year in Cebu, Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort &amp; Spa chose to celebrate the day by expanding its commitment to biodiversity conservation through its launching of the Eco-Trail. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A botanical sanctuary more than just a local attraction, the Eco-Trail features over 65 plants that form a route of lush greenery around the resort. Included in this collection is the recently discovered </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Cynometra Cebuensis</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">, a flowering plant classified as critically endangered due to the rapid deterioration of its natural habitat. The plant’s adoption in the Shangri-La Mactan Eco-Trail is a move to save it from extinction, a move for earth.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The trail begins at the Ranger Base and takes approximately an hour. Foreign guests need not worry about language barriers as each plant overview comes in multiple languages. Specialized resort rangers conduct the tours. These rangers are local experts who all share one thing: a passion for Cebu’s flora and fauna, and a desire to share it with resort guests. Rangers received training from the University of San Carlos &#8211; Biology Department and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.</span></p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>For the last 4 years, every August, all roads lead to Mactan as the international Iron Man Race takes over this small island. Ground zero is of course the crown jewel of this vibrant community, Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa, where different competitions like Iron Girl and the relay course for Iron Kids, begin.</p>
<p>It helps that Rene Egle, the resort’s General Manager, is himself a participant in the rigorous 113 km race.  He was a relay participant and did the bike leg, which was 90km long. With such personal participation, the resort fielded their own Iron Kid team composed of children from the nearby Children’s Haven Orphanage.</p>
<p>Of the 3 children from the orphanage, Rene particularly cheered his favorite, 8-year-old Marie Grace. Her father abandoned her and her mother when she was young, and her mother passed away. She grew up with her grandma, and then together with her younger brother, who is 3 years old, from another father, they were brought to the orphanage when the grandma could no longer care for them.</p>
<p>“She is such a sweet kid, she comes to me with the brightest smile, and it was great to see her compete in their 3-kids relay team,” Rene said.  Their relay team came in second in their mixed 6-8 age group.</p>
<p>His wife Nellie also competed in Iron Girl which happened the day before the great race.  A total of 1,773 participants gathered this year and the gold was won by Radka Kahledfeldt—who went on to win the women’s pro title of the Ironman 70.3 the following day—followed by four-time Cebu Ironman champion Caroline Steffen from Switzerland. Cebuano competitor and Maribago Bluewater GM Domiku Ugarte came in at 33rd place, who finished the race at the 5:35:22 mark.</p>

<p>As the festive season draws closer, Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort &amp; Spa, Cebu welcomes the exhilarating rush with an array of discounts and offers at the Paradise Rush: Yuletide Edition sale. The highly-anticipated biannual mall sale series is now on its 14th run and will be on October 13 to 15, 2017 at the Ground Floor Exhibit Area of Ayala Center Cebu.</p>
<p>Shopping for holiday wish lists is made more exciting as guests plan for their next seaside getaway at the sale. The Paradise Rush: Yuletide Edition offers discounts of up to 50 percent on vouchers that may be used for room accommodation, dining,<br />
watersports, spa treatments and as banquet event credit.</p>
<p>A Book &amp; Buy promo and special offers on the resort’s coveted Health Club membership are also in the lineup. Stay vouchers are at PHP10,000 net for Deluxe / Premier Room; PHP11,000 net for Deluxe Seaview; PHP12,500 net for Panorama Room; and PHP25,000 net for Panorama Suite. All vouchers are inclusive of buffet breakfast for two adults and two children below six years old, plus free one-hour access to indoor playground Adventure Zone for up to two children per stay.</p>
<p>Guests craving the ultimate gastronomic adventure have a variety of experiences to choose from as well. Lunch buffet vouchers for all-day dining restaurant, Tides, are at PHP988 net per person while lunch set menu vouchers for Italian poolside restaurant, Acqua, are at PHP998 net per person. A la carte vouchers, which may be used in any of the resort’s restaurants and bars, are also available at 30 percent off.</p>
