music by hosting an anniversary event on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Draft Punk, Mango Square. “Roll-Out” will feature live acts from a carefully curated list of artists signed under the label.

Performing on stage will be Wonggoys, Bethany, Vincent Eco, Lourdes Maglinte, The Labrats, and Mother Folker (aka Cattski).

Along with this grand celebration will be the unveiling of 22 Tango Records’ new website, with updated features, music articles, events calendar, lots of music and valuable content not just about the label but also about the local music scene.

“As much as I feel like there’s reasons to celebrate, I feel like there’s still so much work to do.” Cattski expressed, when asked about their anniversary celebration. “We still have a long way to go. But, looking back, I’m proud of what we’ve done. We’ve explored the different aspects in the music business – from music creation, promotion, education, distribution, publishing and production – all in the hopes that we’ll ultimately co-create a sustainable local music industry.”

22 Tango Records has given opportunities for artistic growth and development for all their artists in the span of 9 years, training and guiding them to become better at their craft. The label plans to keep giving its support by continuously creating events designed to cater to different genres and music listeners, giving each a unique brand and working hard to keep it consistent.

“I believe in our potential.” Cattski says, “I think to have our own hyper local music industry is something that we strive for. We want the future to have thriving musicians capable and empowered to work for their music using the latest technology, communication means and with a supportive community”.

Chief Finance Officer and Co-founder Anne Muntuerto also shares her thoughts about 22 Tango Records advancing into bigger, more eventful years.

“I’m so proud of how 22 Tango Records has made a mark in the Cebu music scene no matter how small it may seem in the last 9 years,” she says. “We have been extremely lucky to be supported and surrounded by people who believe in our advocacy— our dedicated street team members, artists, brands and companies who have supported us, and 22T’s loyal listeners and followers. It takes a village. And it’s this tribe that inspires us to keep going.”

“Kiss & Disappear” Album Launching (Slide Show)

Supporting an artist at a local scene is the key to an artists’ success. We know Vincent Eco from the local music scene, where he shows every piece of his soul from his songs.  Vincent Eco is a combination of quality voice and great music, with his new album ready to serenade not just his fans but also us, Cebuanos.

He offers a great story of love and heartbreaks. He sends a rhythm to a soul hungry for healing. He comforts someone through his songs, sharing his experiences and inspiring people with his passion, growth and hard work.

Vincent Eco had come a long way since his debut single, “I Know You Do”. His soulful songs are drawn from his experiences from love and heartbreaks.

The artist’s fans celebrated the launch and digital release of his new album “Kiss & Disappear” last June 30, 2018 at Sugid, A Space Cebu. The album, “Kiss & Disappear” was written and composed by Vincent Eco, produced by Cattski Espina, and released under the local record label, 22 Tango Records.

“Kiss & Disappear” has 11 soulful songs in line; Kiss & Disappear, I Know You Do, Make You Stay, Chasing Happiness, We Don’t Talk, Falling ft. Lourdes Maglinte, Last Oath, Fire, Human, Please Don’t Let Me Go and Ramona.

Upon entering the venue, people were already lining up at the registration area to buy the entrance tickets. Guests satisfied their fangirl cravings with Vincent Eco’s merchandise. With a gate fee of P200, fans sat down on the floor to watch the man of the night. Prior to the start of the event, fans were able to witness some scenes of the 4-Part Mini Documentary Series on the making of Kiss & Disappear. Homegrown artists such as J Russ x DT and Lourdes Maglinte performed during the event.

The venue was packed with fans enjoying the chill vibes from the different local artists. You could feel the hairs on your body rising every time the fans would sing-along to the songs. He serenades his fans though his passionate vocal and enchanting lyrics that one’s hungry soul couldn’t get enough of. Some of his songs were written years ago, yet you could still feel the freshness of emotion when he sang the heartfelt story of “Last Oath” on stage. Fans stood up to their feet for his last song of the night, “Fire”.

After his debut single “I Know You Do”, Vincent Eco is back to serenade us once again with his debut album titled “Kiss & Disappear”. Catch the album launch and digital release party this coming June 30, 2018, 8pm at Sugid, ASPACE Cebu.

“Kiss & Disappear” is written and composed by Vincent Eco; produced by Cattski Espina; and recorded, mixed and mastered in Room Eleven Recording studio. The album will be released under local record label, 22 Tango Records.

Back in 2014, Vincent Eco sent a demo of his song “Last Oath” to  22 Tango Records and was then invited to play in some events. Eventually, he was offered a record deal in 2015 which was to be produced by Cattski Espina. With 3 years in the making, this album is set to tell Eco’s stories about love and heartaches.

“As a producer, my intention was to keep Vincent Eco’s authenticity as an artist. The ideas for his sound were mainly inspired by his influences. We applied and executed these ideas and came up with a sound that is uniquely Vincent Eco’s,” says Cattski.

He had come a long way from his high school band days down to the release of his single “I Know You Do”. As an artist, he brands himself in creating music that would allow the listeners to connect. His songs are drawn from his experiences, stories and emotions from within.

He wishes for his music to inspire people and make it part of their everyday lives; to allow the listeners  make his music their form of comfort.

Spreading The Love With 22 Tango Records https://zee.ph/spreading-love-22-tango-records/ https://zee.ph/spreading-love-22-tango-records/#comments Mon, 19 Feb 2018 06:40:10 +0000 http://res210.servconfig.com/~zee/?p=21686 What’s better than spreading the love in the air?

Spreading it through the sound of music! Last Saturday, Ayala Center Cebu and 22 Tango Records showed their love for their fellow Cebuanos by holding another community music fest at the Terraces for free.

Mandaue Nights

Aya’Love (I love how they played with the words here) was filled with people who are die-hard fans of the artists that performed. Some of them were fresh audience who just happened to overhear the music playing in the venue.

Music started playing at around 6pm with the beautiful voice of Lourdes Maglinte as she opens the concert. From then on, the music echoed all across the Terraces which I’m sure made everyone’s night a little more colorful.

Other artists that performed last Saturday include Wonggoys, Groovematics, Bethany, Loop, Sepia Times, Mandaue Nights, Mary Anchit,, J Russ X DT and Vincent Eco.

“I came here for Loop. Their song Lost just relates to me and I bet to a whole lot of people,” says Theresa, one of the people who attended the music fest, “I like the fact that this is free. I enjoyed all the line up of artists. Everything about this event is perfect.”

The artists’ music and performance revolved not just between two people falling in love, but some were dedicated to one’s family or friends– which everybody can relate too.

Vincent Eco is singing the soundtrack of your next break-up https://zee.ph/vicent-eco-is-singing-the-soundtrack-of-your-next-breakup/ https://zee.ph/vicent-eco-is-singing-the-soundtrack-of-your-next-breakup/#comments Tue, 07 Mar 2017 04:31:29 +0000 http://res210.servconfig.com/~zee/?p=15241 Some of the best songs are written about heartbreak, and Vincent Eco‘s I Know You Do is one of them. “I will love you if you don’t. I will hold you in my arms if you let go,” the chorus goes. Your hugot heart sighs in agreement. It certainly tugs at the heartstrings–maybe event the tear ducts.

“It’s about this guy who’s trying hard to love a girl who does not love him anymore,” Vincent explains, saying it was inspired by personal experience. It’s a beautiful depiction of saving a relationship that’s clearly on it’s last leg, and highlights Vincent’s talent as a songwriter. The words are simple, but the sentiment is real. It’s made us all the more excited about the 12-track album that’s currently in production with 22 Tango Records.

SONGWRITING SKILL

22 Tango’s CEO Cattski Espina is producing the album, and picked I Know You Do as the debut single because of it’s coming-of-age feel. “It’s not every day you come across a guy like Eco,” explains Cattski. “His writing style is not exactly Bob Dylan or Leonard Cohen level, since he’s still in his early 20’s, but for some reason he resonates a lot of that classic folk characteristic.”

This Folk Americana sensibility is something that Cattski wanted to retain in the song, and in the rest of the album. “We stayed loyal to the song and Vincent Eco’s unique sound,” she continues. “We just played around with some embellishments–some strings and effects. Nothing crazy.” For this, she worked with bassist Clarence Mongado, and sound engineers Jad Bantug and Anjelo Calinawan.

THE LAUNCH

Vincent Eco’s I Know You Do will be launched in an intimate music session at A SPACE Cebu on March 17. This will be part of _Acoustic, the venue’s regular music events series. Other artists performing are Mary Anchit, Lourdes Maglinte and Honeydrop. Door fee is P150, with the first 25 guests getting a free bottle of The Cebruery craft beer.

Let’s face it. Music in our precious city needs a drastic makeover. Nobody knows this more than 22 Tango Records, an independent local record label determined to address this conundrum head on.

22 Tango Records is home to some of Cebu’s most talented homegrown musicians and songwriters, like Lourdes Maglinte who is great at coming up with witty, albeit painfully true, punch lines in everything she writes and sings; and Vincent Eco, who you can always count on for truthful lyrics that open up wounds and folk melodies that touch the soul. And then there’s Nina Alcoseba, a free spirit with a good head on her shoulders who is easily the ultimate multitasker of the street team—she writes, takes photos, coordinates with artists, and even hosts some of the events. – Micah Almazan

Whether acting on stage or filming from behind the scenes, Charlene Virlouvet and Ernest Dino are reinvigorating theater and independent film in Cebu.

Charlene was 13 years old when she fell in love with theater, when her mother enrolled her in the Out of the Box Theater summer program run by Daisy Baad. That same year, Charlene joined a local production of The Vagina Monologues, and since then has chosen live theater as her weapon of choice to promote her advocacies. Ernest, meanwhile, started filmmaking in college while earning his political science degree at the University of the Philippines-Cebu. His film group is named Retaso Media, and it is also the title of his film that won third place at the 2014 Binisaya Film Festival. – Verne Ahyong

Young architecture graduate Charmaine de Leon was at a music event, walking by the stalls that were peddling a wide assortment of wares—from the most basic items to the quirkiest fashion finds, from unique culinary creations to dessert favorites—when she had her token “eureka!” moment.

Despite the huge crowd present, there wasn’t much foot traffic along these said stalls. Understandably so, because people don’t really go to a music festival to shop. There surely must be a better setting to showcase their products, Charmaine thought, so she rounded up friends Ruby Pansoy and Monica Posadas. Together they came up with what would later on be called the Pop District Bazaar, which has provided Cebuanos with a unique shopping experience, while opening up new opportunities for young entrepreneurs to reach their market and go after their dreams. – Bea Ybanez

You guys, The Wonggoys are back with their second album! https://zee.ph/guys-wonggoys-back-second-album/ https://zee.ph/guys-wonggoys-back-second-album/#comments Wed, 21 Dec 2016 06:38:08 +0000 http://res210.servconfig.com/~zee/?p=14442 It started as common childhood memory—siblings dressed up in matching outfits and asked to perform at family gatherings and parties. But of course, The Wonggoys didn’t just stop there. From singing in chorus to recording their debut album, having a hit song (that’s Chase The Girl Or Rule The World, for the uninitiated) and doing the opening act for the Jonas Brothers concert in Cebu, the band of brothers is set to offer some fresh homegrown music with the release of their sophomore album, High Hello.

Six years after their first album, I’m Not Sure What To Say But I’ll Say It Anyway, Gabe, Bill, and Kyle Wong are back with new material that’s a departure from the acoustic guitar-driven sound of their previous album, as they showcase a more experimental sound. Still under record label 22 Tango Records, High Hello contains nine new tracks, including the recently released single Weekend, which is now available on iTunes, Spotify, and Amazon.

Fondly calling themselves The Wonggoys, a playful take on their surname and how their mother used to call them when they were little (“unggoys”, “monkeys” in English), Gabe, Bill, and Kyle landed their first gig back in 2008, at Alejandro’s. Encouragement from friend Jude Bacalso eventually led the brothers to have their own album in 2010, which then paved the way for opening the Jonas Brothers concert in Cebu back in 2012. “I think they just wanted us because we’re brothers in a band, too,” joked rhythm guitarist Kyle in a 2013 Zee Lifestyle feature.

In the same feature, it was revealed that production on their sophomore album began as early as three years ago, while Kyle and lead guitarist Bill were home from studying abroad. “Our next album will show how we’ve matured as musicians, and have better songwriting.” Bill said back then. “We’ve definitely broken through our comfort zone and explored other sounds and genres.”

High Hello‘s launch party will be on January 7, 2017 at The Greenery. Homegrown acts Lourdes Maglinte, Vincent Eco, Honeydrop and Bethany will also be playing at the event.

The album will be available for download and streaming on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, GooglePlay and Deezer. CDs and other merchandise will also be available starting January 7th.

High Hello is produced by Cattski, and was recorded at 1032 Recording Studios in Cebu and Yellow Room Recording Studios in Manila. (with PR)
