It’s usually around this time that the international vanguards for color announces their selection for the next year’s hottest hue. Considering it’s a color that seeps its way into all aspects of design–from fashion to interiors, from product to graphic–then it’s only natural we await the proclamation with bated breath.

Luckily, we don’t have to wait any longer. Pantone just announced 2018’s color of the year and it’s a deep, deep purple–well Ultra Violet, to be precise. Pantone 18-3838, if you’re really anal about this stuff.

Yes, it’s bold and saturated, and might not be a color everyone can pull off in head-to-toe ensembles (but that doesn’t mean we aren’t going to try!). Maybe we should have seen this coming with the rise of vaporwave–that retro aesthetic that depends so much on that neon glow. Maybe it’s a visual contrast to the tumultuous socio-political landscape.

Whatever the case, Ultra Violet is the color of the year, and we’re about to see a lot more of it. Several iterations have already made its way onto the runways during previous fashion weeks, and we’re putting them up here for some style inspiration–as well as some products that’ll help you get the look now.
