With food, you live, of course. While many others content with their deep fryer with the usual addition of salt and paper, there are, however, who take an upgraded risk may it be an obscure dish or something ordinary turned extraordinary, they are somehow a refreshing step off the beaten path.

Here are our top picks of dishes we ate throughout the food-filled month of May.

Phat Pho

With the recent opening of its third branch in Cebu, Phat Pho in the Terraces of Ayala Center Cebu keeps the modern street style vibe it is known for. Phat Pho’s authentic, healthy, and quality flavors have satisfied the appetite of the many, easily turning it into the Vietnamese kitchen people can’t get enough. Chicken Satay, Claypot Pork Belly, Crispy Egg Rolls, Fish Sauce Chicken Wings are some of the food we love.

Of course, sorry to burst your bubbles, they’ve added some booze—whether it’s sparkling, red, or white wine, beer-below-zero, mimosas or cocktails, they have it.

Sa-ang (Boiled Spider Shell)

Not many would be too keen for its taste and looks, but if there’s one thing you must try, it is this. A common source of protein for many locals in Cebu, sa-ang is an interesting to find in the streets of downtown Cebu. Don’t forget to dunk it in a special spiced vinegar and pair it with puso or hanging rice.

Spaghetti Aragosta

Acqua introduces its newest signature dishes in a true Shangri La fashion. Highlighting lobster and veal, diners can enjoy a taste of Italy with every bite. The Spaghetti Aragosta is palatable seafood pasta topped with a whole lobster, isn’t this so good?

You guys, The Wonggoys are back with their second album! https://zee.ph/guys-wonggoys-back-second-album/ https://zee.ph/guys-wonggoys-back-second-album/#comments Wed, 21 Dec 2016 06:38:08 +0000 http://res210.servconfig.com/~zee/?p=14442 It started as common childhood memory—siblings dressed up in matching outfits and asked to perform at family gatherings and parties. But of course, The Wonggoys didn’t just stop there. From singing in chorus to recording their debut album, having a hit song (that’s Chase The Girl Or Rule The World, for the uninitiated) and doing the opening act for the Jonas Brothers concert in Cebu, the band of brothers is set to offer some fresh homegrown music with the release of their sophomore album, High Hello.

Six years after their first album, I’m Not Sure What To Say But I’ll Say It Anyway, Gabe, Bill, and Kyle Wong are back with new material that’s a departure from the acoustic guitar-driven sound of their previous album, as they showcase a more experimental sound. Still under record label 22 Tango Records, High Hello contains nine new tracks, including the recently released single Weekend, which is now available on iTunes, Spotify, and Amazon.

Fondly calling themselves The Wonggoys, a playful take on their surname and how their mother used to call them when they were little (“unggoys”, “monkeys” in English), Gabe, Bill, and Kyle landed their first gig back in 2008, at Alejandro’s. Encouragement from friend Jude Bacalso eventually led the brothers to have their own album in 2010, which then paved the way for opening the Jonas Brothers concert in Cebu back in 2012. “I think they just wanted us because we’re brothers in a band, too,” joked rhythm guitarist Kyle in a 2013 Zee Lifestyle feature.

In the same feature, it was revealed that production on their sophomore album began as early as three years ago, while Kyle and lead guitarist Bill were home from studying abroad. “Our next album will show how we’ve matured as musicians, and have better songwriting.” Bill said back then. “We’ve definitely broken through our comfort zone and explored other sounds and genres.”

High Hello‘s launch party will be on January 7, 2017 at The Greenery. Homegrown acts Lourdes Maglinte, Vincent Eco, Honeydrop and Bethany will also be playing at the event.

The album will be available for download and streaming on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, GooglePlay and Deezer. CDs and other merchandise will also be available starting January 7th.

High Hello is produced by Cattski, and was recorded at 1032 Recording Studios in Cebu and Yellow Room Recording Studios in Manila. (with PR)
